Live Betting on 20Bet

Live sports betting is, without a doubt, the most exciting new development in the iGaming industry.

Up until recently, you could only engage in sports action betting before the starting whistle. There was no opportunity for you to see how the teams look on the pitch and only then place a bet. Likewise, if you found an interesting football match on television, you couldn’t bet on the sports action for an added source of entertainment.

Real time betting, also known as live betting or in-game betting, changed all of this. Wagers can now be placed at all moments of the competition and the live betting odds change as the play progresses. If a team struggles, the odds for backing them will increase. If they putting on a strong showing, the odds will decrease.

Cautious players are able to use live sports betting to dip their toes by watching a few minutes of play before committing any money to a bet without any major penalty in terms of payoff odds. On the other hand, skilled bettors can wait for a moment when a team is struggling and back them for better odds than they could via pre-match betting.

Fans of the beautiful game of cricket can place live bets on virtually all international T20 and Test cricket matches, as well as on most major domestic leagues, including the Indian Premier League, Big Bash League, Super Smash, T20 Blast, Pakistan Super League, and Euro T20 Slam.

How Does Live Betting Work?

Live in-play betting allows you to place bets on matches as they happen in real time.

While the idea of live sports betting has been toyed with in offline bookmaking offices in years past, in-play betting didn’t really take off in earnest until a new crop of licensed and regulated online betting sites began to appear.

Thanks to the widespread use of the internet, bookies could now take bets from their clients instantly. A system of sophisticated live betting odds was then developed to react to changes in betting markets in real time.

How Live Betting Odds Adjust to the Game In-Play

Let’s take a look at how this can play out in real life.

For example, let’s say we were following a UEFA Champions League match between Real Madrid and Celtic. For the sake of simplicity, we are only looking at the match-winner market.

In pre-match betting, Real Madrid are heavy favorites and are offered at 1.10.

As the game starts, Real Madrid scores a quick goal and begins to show dominant play. The live betting odds reflect that. Real Madrid is now offered at an even less lucrative 1.05.

On the 27th minute, a Real Madrid player is given a yellow card for rough play. The player feels that the penalty is unjust and gets into a heated debate with the referee. As a result of this, he receives a red card.

The odds instantly reflect this. Real Madrid is now available at 1.41.

Celtic score on the 41st minute. Real Madrid to win rises to 1.75.

A second goal by Celtic on the 54th minute. 2.67.

On the 71st minute, Celtic score a third. Now, Real Madrid are available as heavy 5.12 underdogs.

Are Live Betting Odds Different from Pre-Match Betting?

Yes, they are different. While live betting odds will generally start off mirroring the pre-match betting odds at the time of the starting whistle, they will start drifting away from that level almost instantly.

As bettors see the true form of the teams or athletes, they will start making bets accordingly.

More people will bet on the side they think can become the outright winner or cover a particular point spread. This activity tips the odds for the available betting markets to one side.

Is Betting Live More Profitable than Wagering in Advance?

The live betting odds of an event can be both more and less profitable than its pre-match betting odds. It all depends on what bet you are making and how the game unfolds.

Let’s take a look at a popular in-play betting strategy that experienced sports bettors often use to improve their odds when betting on an underdog team.

For example, let’s say that a player can back an underdog in an NFL game with pre-match betting for 2.4. In this situation, they may elect to wait for a quarter or two.

If the team struggles on the field, the game’s live betting odds will reflect that, so backing the weaker team will become even more profitable.

Let’s say that the bettor places a wager at halftime for a 3.7 payoff. If the underdog team wins, they get to benefit from the increased odds. If the team loses, then the lost sum is exactly the same as what they would’ve lost in pre-match betting.
